Hurricane Dorian Leaves Destruction In Its Path - Cruise Lines Offer Some Relief

After greatly damaging Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Islands, Hurricane Dorian is making its way slowly up the east coast of the United States.

Based on the reported damage to Grand Bahama Island and the Abaco Islands, it may be years before life return to normal. With the significant damage and loss of life,  the island has a long path to rebuild.

Many cruise lines have donated relief money including Carnival, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. There was also a sizeable donation from the Arison family (founders of Carnival Cruises empire).

The Bahamas is an important port of call for cruise lines, only being 90 miles from Miami and a frequent call on 3 and 4 day cruises from Florida.

Many cruise lines have their private islands in the Bahamas and those islands are being evaluated for damage after Dorian's wrath.

Royal Caribbean has posted the following to their website......
  •  We closed CocoCay on Wednesday, August 28th, 2019, and had originally planned to reopen it on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019. However, as the majority of the Bahamas has been impacted, we’re assessing the damage from webcams on CocoCay – not seeing the full picture. So, our team of experts is making their way there on Wednesday, which is when they’ll evaluate the extent of the damage. Currently, our hope is to be up and running on Saturday, September 7th, 2019, but we won’t really know if it’s ready for normal operation until the entire island is assessed. In the meantime, we’ve secured alternative ports for some of our sailings.
  • Our CocoCay Team is made up of over 400 people, and most are locals. So, it’s important that we account for all of them and give them the time to properly take care of their families and homes during this devastating time.
Norwegian Cruise Line posted to their website:
  •  Our hearts are with those impacted by Hurricane Dorian. On Sept. 5, Norwegian Breakaway will depart Miami with hurricane relief supplies donated by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and its employees, in addition to items collected by the City of Miami, Baptist Health South Florida, the 305 Gives Back foundation, and other Miami-based organizations, to be delivered to Nassau, Great Harbor Cay, the company’s private island Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. We will also be relaunching Hope Starts Here, our parent company’s hurricane relief campaign in partnership with All Hands and Hearts, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has pledged a minimum commitment of $1 million toward immediate short-term relief for those affected by Hurricane Dorian.
We suspect that Dorian will further inflict damage - now focused on the US.

Those at NYCruiseInfo.com extend our sympathies to those impacted by Dorian and extend our condolences to those who lost loved ones in the storm. Those impacted will remain in our thoughts and our prayers.

We will continue to cover Dorian in the days ahead and hope that further impact will be limited.
